New insights into the water towers at the Red Gate

Fancy discovering new corners and rooms of the waterworks at the Red Gate? A virtual 3D model now opens up areas that would otherwise remain closed.

Especially now in times of Corona, some objects of Augsburg's World Heritage Site can no longer be visited. First and foremost, the waterworks at the Red Gate, one of the centerpieces of our World Heritage site.

In order to provide an insight into the water towers at the Red Gate from home, the World Heritage Office of the City of Augsburg, together with Kornelius Götz from the Büro für Restaurierungsberatung (Office for Restoration Consulting), has set the stage for the entire object as a virtually walk-through 3D model. All rooms of the Great and Small Water Tower as well as the Upper Fountain Master's House and part of the aqueduct can be experienced. Rooms that are not even shown on guided tours are also opened up here, including mysterious attic chambers and the roof terrace of the large water tower, from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city.
